After a recent Estrella Morente concert at Sadlers Wells, I started thinking about what it is that performers do, metaphysically speaking.
Performers…
… Hold us together in a moment of time. All 2, 10, 100, or 10,000 of us. However many the space holds.
… They hold us… and then release us.
… Sometimes they elongate time itself – and we hold our breath. Sometimes they speed things up, and we breathe faster. We notice that we are breathing at the same tempo as the others in the space.
… On our final release, we clap – to show our appreciation – but also to release their hold over us, to break the spell that has been woven, so we can return to our lives.
I am of course talking of the magic of a live performance. People are in the same space, experiencing the same thing, at the same time.
This one-ness is what many spiritual practices talk about, and yet many of us seldom experience.
One more gift to the world from artists!
